Gabrielle KardonPrincipal InvestigatorGabrielle had a circuitous path to her current position. As a Yale undergrad, she majored in geology, specializing in paleobiology. She pursued graduate school at the University of Michigan and completed a MS thesis on coevolution and adaptation in molluscs. However, her reading of Embryos, Genes, and Evolution (by Raff and Kaufman) convinced her that developmental biology was her scientific path. After forays into science policy, high school teaching and world travel (including a stint measuring climate change in the Southern Pacific), she returned to academic science. At Duke she began research on the musculoskeletal system and obtained her PhD with Dave McClay and Stephen Wainwright. She continued her training in developmental biology as a postdoc with Cliff Tabin at Harvard and then started her lab in Utah in 2004. The lab has pursued research in development, regeneration, homeostasis, diseases, and evolution of the musculoskeletal system. |
